Choosing the right skate products

When I first started skating I had no idea about how important it is to buy the right skate products. I didn’t want to spend too much money so I went on Trade Me, found a board for $30, and bought it instantly thinking it was a score! Because I had no previous experience with skating I had no idea how bad the board was. After skating it for a few months, and a lot of my friends encouraging me to buy a proper board, I went to my local skate shop and got myself a proper board. I couldn’t believe the difference. I realised that the $30 board didn’t really turn and went extremely slowly.

Why does this matter?

When I went back to the park the next day with the new board I made an insane amount of progress. Cheap boards hold back progress. When learning to skate the bowl it is super important that your board can turn easily so that you can make it all the way around. I didn’t know this and spent weeks trying to go around the bowl on a cheap board when I could have learnt how to in just a few sessions. Having a faster board also meant that I was able to gain more speed which felt amazing!

Summary:

Cheap skate products don’t work, you will end up having to spend more money on getting the right equipment for your child… Or they may become disinterested in skating because they don’t get the proper feel for it.
