Lockdown tricks for your kids to learn

Learning a new trick can be super fun and exciting, it can also be a great project to keep busy with. I remember when I first started skating I used to spend hours learning how to do each trick. Some tricks even took up to 6 months to learn. Below are a few tricks that you could recommend to your child if you think they need a little encouragement. Sometimes it can be confusing knowing which tricks to learn next. This is one of the reasons why skate lessons can be really beneficial. Unfortunately we will need to wait for level 2 before we can resume lessons. In the meantime I hope you find this guide useful. I have also attached some YouTube tutorial videos that may be helpful.

The most important thing is to keep trying, keep practicing, keep asking what do I need to do differently to make this work.

For beginners

Practice rolling on flat ground, rolling up and down little slopes, and leaning to turn by pushing on your heels and toes.

For intermediate skaters

Learn how to ollie, it takes a while but it is absolutely essential. An ollie is the foundation to most tricks. Once they can do a little ollie, suggest they try it while rolling. Next try to ollie over cracks and small objects like a plank of wood. Ollie tutorial

For more advanced skaters

Practice doing ollies down small drops, like curbs or small sets of stairs. Start small and slowly work up to bigger drops. Make sure to ollie properly and go fast enough. They could also learn how to kickflip. I definitely recommend watching this YouTube tutorial for learning how to kickflip. Remember, kickflips can take a looong time to learn. It took me 6 months! But the hard work will pay off.
